A balut is a fertilized duck egg with its embryo inside that is cooked like a boiled egg. It is considered a delicacy in Asia and especially for its high protein content in the Philippines, China, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Most of Balut's diners use a salt shaker to pour in some grains of salt while they eat it, some use chili or vinegar to complement the egg.
